WordReference is one of the most widely used on-line dictionaries. It gives translations of words and usually has a good selection of examples of the word in context.
Macmillan Dictionary and Thesaurus online dictionary. This is a dictionary for advanced learners, but it focuses on the 7,500 most common English words. Included in the definitions are also phrasal verbs, idioms and the word's pronunciation. The homepage of this site also gives links to

If you click on Wordlists at the top of the page you can go to Pictures, which gives you an image plus the definition; don't forget to click on the picture because it will show you pictures of related words.
